iPad is essentially a mobile device running smartphone hardware on a big 9.7 inch screen, so it’s expected to run a mobile operating system like iPhone OS, Android or maybe Windows Mobile, with appropriate drivers, of course. On the other hand, Citrix, a company that deals with virtualization software, built a virtual machine using the iPad SDK simulator that allow Windows 7 to run native on the iPad.
The software is called XenDesktop 4 is capable of running an unmodified version of Windows 7. Multitasking is possible, unlike the native iPhone OS that runs on the iPad. It’s interesting to see how Apple will react to this news, but if I were in their place I would let this thing be, as it might attract people like me, who are faithful to Windows and need it to do their work. After all, Apple gains with every iPad it sells, and if people are ok with paying a lot of money for mobile device that runs Windows 7 sluggish it’s their choice.
