It’s not really news but Deloitte consulting firm just released their annually Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) report which states that in 12 months time the tablet market will grow in size of approximately 1 billion dollars. Oh, and they call touch tablets NetTabs.

Their explanation, besides the huge numbers or prototypes, concepts and official announcements at CES 2010, is that NetTabs cover a need that existed for many years: a small device, bigger than a smartphone but smaller and less expensive than a netbook/slim and light laptop which can be used for online browsing, media watching, music listening and webmail.

Apparently Deloitte thinks 10 inch slate tablets are the right equipment for the job, now that technology evolved enough to allow almost anywhere wireless access to Internet and decent battery life in a powerful enough small package. Deloitte sees any big computers manufacturer to launch their own vision of a NetTab this year and sales will boom to 1 billion dollars (more than the market of personal navigation devices, which is not clear what exactly means) in 12 months time from now.

    I just hope they’re right or I’m out of a job :)
