Back in September Toshiba introduced us to the Thrive little brother, the Thrive 7, a tablet that follows the same recipe with a rugged rubber body, same hardware components, but a reduced size (and smaller ports, no more full size USB, HDMI and SD card slot).
That’s what people want and that’s what Toshiba delivers, or better said, wants to deliver, as just now the 32GB version of the Toshiba Thrive 7 has showed up online at some retailers, but nothing major (no Best Buy, Amazon and so on). So from the looks of it, we might be able to actually get one delivered before the end of the month, which can only mean good things for Toshiba’s sales numbers.

The 32 GB version will cost you around 450-570 dollars, so expect the 16GB model to be cheaper, maybe approaching the $350 price point, but we’ll have to wait a few more days to see if that’s true (in Canada the 16 GB Thrive 7 is listed at 350-370 CAD, so it might be slightly cheaper in US).

Toshiba Thrive 7: like the original, but smaller
On Toshiba’s website the Thrive 7 is listed as powered by Android 3.1. They say it’s the latest version, but we all know manufacturers like to brag about things not true. Anyway, hope Toshiba plans an update to Ice Cream Sandwich earlier next year. Follow this page if you’re interested in specs and purchasing the tablet (I’ll be updating it with links from major stores, when it will be available there).

One of the most interesting tablets of 2011 announced at CES in January, that turned into a disappointment, is the...
Although I like the build quality of most Toshiba’s products, yet the Thrive 7 is not very attractive to me when seeing its specs. I’d rather wait for the arrival of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the coming months, hopefully.
Why would anyone pay that much for a Thrive 7 when you can buy the Thrive 10 for the same or less? I paid 425.00 for my Thrive 10 32gig.
I hope Toshiba comes to its sense and lowers the price to around $300, or even less.
There is 1 US retailer who has the 7″ Thrive. I know because it I’m typing on it right now. It was in HHGregg’s Sunday ad. I paid $379 but I’m hoping the price is wrong. I was assured they will refund the difference if the release price is lower. It ships with Android 3.2.1 and is pretty awesome but at $379 I will return it and opt for a 10 inch model.
