Can you believe this? Toshiba just announced its plans on making their entry (again) into the touch tablet business with dual screen models powered by Android and Windows (not at the same time, of course). What’s not to believe is that they don’t say anything about Microsoft’s Courier dual tablet concept, clearly the source of inspiration here.
Of course, Microsoft Courier is not the first dual screen tablet, as we’ve talked already about the Entourage eDGe, that is essentially an eReader + Android tablet in the same shell, with limited options for moving bits of content from one screen to another. I suppose Toshiba wants to do something closer to Courier, that will make users seamlessly switch between the two screens.
Also Toshiba expressed their opinion on slate tablets, which are seen as not netbook competitors, but as a new market that will expend exponentially in the next years. Toshiba thinks slate tablets will be used primarily for media consumption. They didn’t comment on the price and availability of their two screen tablets, but I bet it won’t be this year.
