One thing that keeps me away from a touch tablet is its price, as I don’t see it as an alternative to a portable computer, but as a low powered device with an alternate input method designed for special hand input applications. Toshiba thinks it has a sollution to this inconvenint and announced this year at IFA the JournE touch multimedia tablet, a 7 inch, one pund device running Windows CE 6.0 and that can support H.264, DivX and WMV video codecs, has special applications for Youtube and Flickr and can connect to Internet via WiFi.

When you’re not moving the Toshiba JournE, it can be docked, thus being able to output 1080p video via a HDMI port. The touch multimedia tablet is only 14mm thick, has 1 GB of internal expandable memory via an SD slot. What’s best is the price: 250 EUROS in Europe, so this measn 250 $ in US. Toshiba says it will be available in Q4 this year.
