I’m not sure if you remember the Toshiba Excite AT200, a tablet showcased at IFA Berlin, back in September, but of which we haven’t heard about for some time now, and it’s a pity, as the world’s thinnest and lightest tablet (for its 10 inch form factor) is something worth talking about: 0.3″ (7.7mm) and 19.68 oz (558 grams). Ass is possible by using a single sheet of aluminium for the entire body, which also adds the advantage of a tougher case.
If you don’t remember the specs, take a look here and refresh your memory. We’re talking about a dual core 1.2 GHz Texas Instruments processor, 1GB RAM, 10 inch display (1280 x 800 px, a standard resolution already), dual cameras, storage up to 64 GB and micro ports (SD, USB and HDMI). OS is Honeycomb 3.2, but I hope Toshiba is planning to update the Excite AT200 to Ice Cream Sandwich soon after launch in early 2012.
Now that we’re preparing to step into 2012 Toshiba started to hint of a January 2012 launch, as shown on their Canadian website. Germany will get it too in January, but no release date for US just yet. Probably we’re talking about January – February time frame. Pricing is yet another unknown and a big one, now that cheaper Android tablets have become available. Anyway, to me the AT200 is a worthy successor to the Toshiba Thrive, and I get the feeling I’m not the only one thinking it.

Toshiba Excite AT200 will be available soon
Let’s end with a short video that previews the amazing tablet:

Acer finally announced officially the Iconia TAB A200 tablet, a 10 inch Android slate that does't differ too much from...
The video that is supposed to preview the Toshiba AT200 shows the Galaxy Tab 7.7 instead. A mistake I guess.
Allright, after trying again I got it right now.
Probably there was a problem with your browser cache. I’m glad it’s now solved :)
Asus Prime and Toshiab Excite !
I am excited …only one small thing, will the Excite get a quad core version ?
There’s no rumor about Toshiba doing a quad core Excite. But at some point I expect thin quad core tablets from Toshiba (ASUS already has the Transformer Prime).
