Stantum is a company specialized in touchscreen panels, and their latest product was sent to Engadget who got to play with a hacked Dell Mini 10 which had the keyboard removed and the screen coated with Stantum’s technology, a resistive layer that supports 10 fingers multi touch. The device runs Windows 7 and comes with a stylus for things like handwriting recognition.

    You can also use your fingers (it’s actually recommended) to interact with the touchscreen. A special software that acted as a Stantum demo showed up to 10 fingers multitouch and, more important, pressure touch sensing that is calculated based on the surface area of contact from the panel and your fingers. Also a precision application showed how accurate the technology is compared to other touch technologies, even capacitive in nature.

    I hope Stantum gets to sell it’s panels to important manufacturers as it might be a cheap way to get a responsive multi touch screen in tomorrow’s tablets. Below there’s a video demo recorded by Engadget that shows the capabilities of Stantum Slate PC:
