Remember interactive tables? The kind of devices you won’t see in your living room in the next two-three years because of the high cost of purchase. They’re still cool, but till prices come down there’s nothing you can do than just admire them in some museums. Sony plans on bringing in June its own interactive table called AtracTable, a 35 inch table with Full HD resolution that’s being developed by a Swiss company called Atracsys, who sold the technology to Sony.
The AtracTable uses a Swill made optical system to track movement of people, determine their sex, age and emotion (recognizing happiness, anger, surprise, sadness and neutrality). The movements you make in front of the device (or the area that’s being tracked) are then translated into commands for the avatar you control on screen. You could also touch the table surface, but Sony says that it’s not necessary, and this is a strong point in applications where a sterile environment is required, like medical operation rooms.
