One of the ways a company can stand and say “we’re playing with the big league” is not by making great products but by thinking of the future and present concepts that raise consumer interest. Samsung did it recently with its patent application for a dual sided touchscreen tablet. The concept is not that different to the Motorola Backflip smartphone or the initial prototype of Notion Ink Adam, but there’s a pretty important thing that makes all the difference.
Samsung didn’t imagine the rear touchscreen panel as a replica to the front touch display, but as a complementary control unit meant to allow complex finger gestures involving both touch panels. It’s interesting to see where Samsung will manage to take this concept, but I bet they’re now trying to figure out if consumers are interested enough in buying a dual sided touch screen tablet.
