Android tablets are starting to appear like mushrooms after rain (we can’t buy them yet, but they’re being announced at least). The latest is build by the unknown Rydeen company, who gave it the name gPad GCOM 701. In essence what we have here is a 7 inch Android tablet running on a Marvell Armada 166 series 800 MHz CPU. The big problem here is the screen, resistive in nature, with a 800 x 480 pixels resolution. We would have preferred a capacitive screen, but I guess when price is in question this one won the game.
Now back to specs, we must highlight the presence of a GPS chip with the Navtek navigation software which will allow you to use the Rydeen gPad GCOM701 as a PND in your car. That’s surely something that sets apart this 7 inch tablet. Rydeen says it will bring the gPad GCOM701 in US at the beginning of November, so we’ll find out soon the pricing. Till then here are a few important specifications:
- Marvell PXA166 – 800MHz; Android 1.6 or higher
- 7-inch TFT resistive-type touch panel; 800×480-pixel resolution
- 256 MB RAM DDR2, 2 GB internal storage, expendable with microSD cards (up to 8 GB)
- GPS – High-Sensitivity GPS Receiver (NXP GNS7560)
- WiFi, Bluetooth
- 7.4V 1600mAh Li battery (internal), good for 6 to 8 hours
