Remember quantum tunneling touchscreen technology? It’s that technology which will allow pressure sensitive panels to be fitted to small devices like nothing we’ve seen before. Apparently Nissha signed an agreement with Peratech that allows them to use the technology in US for one year on devices with screens smaller that 3.5 x 5.5 inches.
With this occasion we found out more about QTC (quantum tunneling) that uses particles with spikes that detect a contact from the early stages when you’re thumb isn’t making too much contact with the surface of the screen. It seems that pressure sensitive touchscreen might bring the possibility to design 3D user interfaces when a harder press might mean a deeper interaction with a far away object. Also games on portable devices could prove to be easier to control thanks to finer commands. Another improvement made possible by QTC are slimmer devices that consume less power as in the initial no-press state the resistance between in the touch layer is zero.
