I've told you yesterday that someone, Gawker, put a ransom for the people who will get them proof of existence of the Apple iSlate. The ransom increased with a better proof: pictures, video or the actual tablet. It seems that Apple didn't ignore this threat to their internal secrecy and acted with a cease and desist letter who got at Gawker the same day. Now, what were they thinking, and by they I mean Apple? This is the way they're practically acknowledged the existence of something they don...
We've said before that Motorola has plans on getting a tablet device on market soon, as their Droid Android phone was a success last year and finally made the American company rise again from the ashes. Motorola's CEO recently declared that the company is planning to introduce native multi touch interface in all its upcoming products. They said the problem doesn't lie solely on hardware but also in other aspects (I guess he meant the interface design) but they're pretty confident they can overco...
3M is one of the biggest companies out there pushing out news technologies for consumers to embrace. Their latest trick, presented at CES 2010, was a multi touch screen panel capable to figuring out 10 finger multi touch gestures. That surely it the maximum we need for single use (we don't have more than 10 fingers don't we?). The 19 inch screen with 1680 x 1050 pixels screen made sure things weren't too cramped there and your fingers can move freely. The prototype presented had DVI and VGA conn...
One of the issues with touch tablets, the exorbitant price for most of the people, is addressed by Freescale, the company that delivers Kindle's CPU and 70% of the chips inside any eBook reader on market. Freescale presented at CES 2010 a reference design for a touch tablet/slate that could be sold for a price as low as 199$ and it's not cheap on features as you might have expected. Freescale will try to sell the reference design to other manufacturers which in turn will customize it and sell it...
This is really madness, someone offers a reward for spy shots of the upcoming Apple tablet. What's insane is the amount of money: 100.000$. That's a lot of cash for stealing (or borrowing) the tablet and offering it for an hour for someone to play with it. Just taking pictures of it gives you 10.000$, a video gets you 20.000$ and pictures with Steve Jobs holding it puts 50.000$ in your pocket, as for the 100.000$ we've already told you what to do.[caption id="attachment_953" align="aligncent...
And you though I've given up on telling Apple tablet rumors. It's impossible to ignore the news flying the web these days, that's why I'm gonna make the second roundup of rumors about the upcoming Apple iSlate tablet (everyone thinks it's gonna get here in Q2 and it will be announced January 27th during Apple's event. So let's see what 'sources' say:multi touch gestures (that's a no brainer) very fast ARM CPU which together with the iPhone OS will make the tablet fly access to Apple's A...
It's not the first time we talk about the ASUS with its rumored EEE PC slate type tablet (or better said PAD) which apparently was present at CES this year but not where you would expect it but at Nvidia's booth where it was displayed as an ASUS concept tablet using the Tegra 2 chipset.[caption id="attachment_942" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="ASUS EEE Tablet prototype"][/caption]It's clear that for now ASUS hasn't decided it to go on with this tablet because the prototype dis...
Now that CES made tablets roam wild there's a second battle manufacturers take: showing users what they can do with a touch tablet. Cydle build the M7 like a portable desk television set, thus including a TV tuner, in this case a ATSC model. The OS used by Cydle is Android, without too much modifications, but the final version is expected to have a special home scree that will offer access to the tablet's main functions. Power comes from an 800 MHz ARM CPU so nothing fantastic here. A stand perm...
Touch tablet devices are gadgets, they are used by geeks for web browsing, sending emails and stuff that doesn't include actual work around the house, but Nimble wants to change that with the Touch Revolution Tablet, a 7 inch device that can be integrated into microwave ovens, refrigerators and dishwashers and seemingly integrate with them. They gave a few examples of integration: you scan with a barcode reader any packaging that you've emptied and the tablet orders another one from your favorit...
Chumby was one of the first manufacturers to pave the way to cheap touch tablets as they had in offer for quite some time tablets using a simple proprietary OS widget friendly and with simple user interaction, plus, the most important of all things, it was cheap enough for user to buy. Now the Chumby Sunfury is in works and intends to bring another level of simplicity (now even Sony uses Chumby's OS) but with upgraded features. The Sunfury will be a 7 inch tablet (800 x 480 pixels resolutio...
