If you ask me there are two main types of tablets: the ones that try and be a computer, but more portable and the ones that focus on mobility and act like larger smartphones. Almost as a rule the first category runs Windows and the second run on dedicated OSes like Android and Iphone OS, both fine tuned for mobile computing. What to choose? If you’re the type wanting to replace their laptop then go to the first category. If you feel like your smarphone is missing something then you have to choose something from the second.

A new report says that the number of people in the first category is 10 time smaller than the other one, as it estimates 24% of tablets in 2010 to be powered by Android, 10 % by Windows and the rest will go to Apple (I guess the report refers to the US market) . Worldwide I see even more Android market share and a lot of Windows 7 variations powering HP Slate type touch screen tablets. The same reports states that by 2012 we might see a lot of sub 200$ devices meant for media consumption and web browsing, with no productivity options (office suite for example). I guess people don’t want to work on the go, right?
