After the first generation of Tegra mobile platform, Nvidia acknowledges that it made a mistake by teaming up too close with Microsoft and now is planning to switch orientation towards Android devices with its Tegra 2 platform, which is soon to be released for end users. Nvidia takes direct aim at Apple’s A4 chip (found inside iPad) and other mobile architectures, found in smartphones, MIDs and current tablets. The main advantage of Tegra 2, according to Nvidia, comes from the fact that is a platform built from the ground up for tablets with high resolution displays. It’s not an adjusted version of a smartphone chip.

We have to admit they’re true and first prototypes of Tegra 2 looked pretty impressive. It remains to be seen now the real world performance and the price of the first devices, a factor always critical to a product’s success. And speaking of availability: first tablets, MIDs and smartphones with Tegra 2 are expected just in time for back to school period of 2010.
