Remember the Pixel QI hybrid LCD-eInk screen that at maximum contrast displays black and white colors only, just like an eInk screen, but is capable of showing moving pictures with little sacrifice in power consumption? If not, you can read more about Pixel QI here. It seems that Notion Ink, the first model which will use this amazing technology will arrive pretty soon and will boost features the iPad only dreams of: 1080p Full HD output and even flash playback in browser, while offering double battery life around 20 hours of actual use.

There will be two models, one 12.9 mm thick, the other 11.6mm, the difference coming from the screen used (but we don’t know more yet about this matter). Also one more thing to prove they’re serious enough: a 1 million $ bounty (or prize if you like) is offered for the developer that gets the best app for Notion Ink slate type tablet. I believe this is going to be one tough rival for Apple’s iPad, but competition is always something that benefits the end user so I’m not complaining.

There’s no actual info about release date or pricing but given the Tegra architecture I believe it will be in the affordable range (think 500$).
