Android, Tegra 2, E-ink, swivel web cams, all those things were common this year at CES, but what about all of them inside the same device.

Yes, it’s possible, with the Notion Ink Adam touch tablet (slate form) integrating the Pixel Qi E-Ink type screen, “la piece de resistance”, a hybrid LCD screen which operates in two modes: LCD more for indoor use and normal power consumption and a low power reflective mode that cuts down power and mutes colors (to a black and white almost look) plus it gets brighter the more sunlight hits its surface.

The second operating mode will be more interesting to users as it consumes less power (0,2 Watts) and allow normal video files to be played, unlike on a E-Ink display. In combination with the Tegra 2 chipset we could see up to 160 hours of continuous operation using a normal 3 cell battery. That’s more than enough, even by E-Reader standards.

Now back to the features of Notion Ink Adam we have all the goodies a 2010 tablet has to offer: WiFi, 3G connectivity, HDMI port for Full HD output to a bigger screen, 10,1 inch screen with multitouch input (up to 6 touch points), 14 mm thick body, 3 megapixel swivel camera (for video calls and photo shooting), accelerometer for controlling the UI. Notion Ink said they’re working on a front end interface on top of Android’s that will work like a window in a bigger ‘desktop’ space and the accelerometer and multi touch gestures will play an important role in navigating through it. Also a 1:1 touch pad on the back of Adam helps moving the cursor and interact with the UI without leaving fingerprints on the display.

We really liked this tablet, especially with its Pixel Qi innovative screen and we’re keen on seeing more during Mobile World Congress Barcelona when Notion Ink will be presenting a more refined prototype. Of course being in early prototype form means availability time was not yet considered, nor its price but we’re hoping it will be sometime this year, and cheap. Below there’s a short video presenting the device.
