Notion Ink Adam is one of the most awaited tablets of 2010, mostly because of its Pixel Qi screen that allows the device to function in two modes: normal LCD and eReader with backlight off, which reduces screen consumption to around 0.5 watts. Recently there were rumors about the device being delayed by manufacturing problems and lack of investors. Today the founder of Notion Ink announced that there are no problems (they have investors willing to finance up to 100.000 units produced every month) and the device is on track for Q3 release, albeit it won’t be available in all countries around the world, just like the iPad who doesn’t sell everywhere right now.

There is also info pointing out to a second Notion Ink Adam model, without the Pixel Qi screen, thus cheaper, but I doubt people would want it, as it will be a plain vanilla Android slate tablet, nothing more. Interestingly, Notion Ink isn’t sitting on their laurels and are working on a third device, with an alternate chipset, tuned for lower power consumption and cheaper at the same time.

I hope it will retain the HD playback capabilities of the first Notion Ink Adam, the one with the Tegra 2 chipset. Once we get confirmation about availability and pricing we’ll let you know, as always.
