One of my favourites cheap tablets, the Nook Tablet, just got more interesting, as expected, since it just got rooted. As in most cases, the folks at XDA Developers forum have managed to gain root access to the tablet, which means the ability to install nice things like the Android Marketplace.

Just like with the Nook Color before, it seems Barnes and Noble products are really friendly when it comes to getting the most of them with a few tweaks and little effort. The bootloader is still locked, so for now you’re stuck with Android 2.3, but don’t worry, someone will find a way to completely unlock the $250 tablet and you’ll probably be able to experiment yourself with the tools provided be guys with more tech knowledge than you and me.

Mind you that by rooting and altering the software on your Nook Tablet, or any other slate for that matter, will void the warranty, and if you don’t know what you’re doing there’s a big chance to mess things up to a point where you can only use your gadget as a paper weight. So you’d better wait for a dual boot SD card like the one for Nook Color. It should play safe with normal consumers.

And the second news about the Nook Tablet comes from iFixit, which managed to dissect the product and found out it features very similar internals to the Kindle Fire opened last week, but it’s slightly thicker because of the larger battery that’s supposed to last up to 11.5 hours vs the 8 hours of the Kindle tablet. There’s also the additional 512MB RAM, double the capacity present on Amazon and Apple tablets and the microSD card slot for additional storage. Hit the source links below for more details.
