Industry reports are an important part of process of making things better, by taking the pulse of the market and predicting how things will go in the future. The latest Gartner report shows interesting signs of PC market growth for next years which is projected to go up around 20% each year till 2012. Most of this growth will be attributed to mobile devices like laptops, netbooks and tablets, which will account for about 90% of this growth. This is just like predicted in an older report.
Not just tablets will drive the market up but also any other form of touchscreen device, as in cell phones market it seems that touchscreens will become more and more common in mainstream and entry level devices. This year the number of sold units worldwide will double to 362 millions units and in three years will account for 58 to 80 percents of the entire market size.
Gartner doesn’t just throw numbers like these and also raises a signal that for touch devices to be successful there are more important aspects than touch layers at hardware level and they’re talking about a seamless interface and a market store for apps that further extend the functionality of the device, but we already knew that after seeing the success Apple has with its iPhone and AppStore.
