Yes, it’s finally official: Motorola is launching the WiFi only Xoom in US on March 27th and they got a really nice price for it: 599$. Before saying it’s worse than the iPad 2 and costs more, take a moment and think about what Android offers in terms of flexibility compared to iOS and then look at the WiFi Xoom, that comes with 32 GB of internal flash storage and you’ll see it’s priced exactly like the 32 GB iPad 2. Sure I would have liked to see a 16 GB version priced right at 499$, but maybe Motorola is considering this for the near future. It could be a decision that can turn tables in Motorola’s advantage.

    The rest of the specs remain unchanged, of course: 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel capacitive multitouch display, front and rear cameras, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and up to 10 hours battery life. It’s not a bad deal, especially since the screen has a nicer resolution than the iPad 2 and there’s plenty of power onboard for the most demanding apps. Maybe it lags in terms of graphics performance, but won’t be an issue if you don’t plan on using it as a portable gaming console (which will drain battery faster, by the way).

    You’ll be able to get your Motorola Xoom from the following retail locations (and online): Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam’s Club, Staples and Walmart at launch day, March 27th. Right now you can also preorder it from BHPhoto’s website. I’m curious if this new fighter will manage to gain sales momentum, as I’m pretty sure it won’t make people stop buying the iPad 2, which has only one problem to focus on right now: Apple can’t meet demand.

    Oh, and not to forget, the Xoom is rumored to receive Flash 10.2 support by launch date, which makes it a better alternative at web browsing than the iPad 2. Will you get yours or wait for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?
