Even if Windows 8 is still months away from the official launch and probably the first devices will arrive just in time for the 2012 Christmas I start to get a feeling Microsoft is starting to promote their next operating system stronger and stronger. After releasing the official requirements for Windows 8 tablets it’s time now to take a look a the sensor support at OS level.
In a long blog post (very interesting if you need more info) Microsoft details the kind of sensors Windows 8 will be able to support natively, with no need for special drivers or software. It’s about time, if Windows 8 slates want to have a chance to complete with Android and iOS tablets. As expected there’s support for adaptive brightness sensors, 3D accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, digital compass.
What’s interesting is a new concept, called “sensor fusion”, which gathers data from multiple sensors, complementing each-other’s weaknesses, effectively offering a more precise (and responsive) response to the user input.
