One sad day for all you touch tablet fans: Microsoft killed the Courier dual screen tablet concept and HP did the same with its Slate project. It’s like the two talked between each other and reached the same conclusion, that the two projects are not worth pursuing anymore. It’s a sad day because Courier was really an interesting concept that might have had an actual use and would have propelled Microsoft as a company that can think outside the box for one instance, if they want to. I guess corporation stuff got into way and Courier was killed for financial reasons.
On the other front, HP’s cancellation of Slate comes a little too early after they’ve purchased Palm yesterday. I know everyone wants a WebOS tablet, but there are also a lot of people out there seeking a good Windows 7 touch tablet (me included) because of the unlimited customization options. Of course a Windows tablet is slow, lasts a lot less than a tablet with smartphone hardware (see the iPad) but you can do pretty much anything you can do with your laptop if you want to.
I guess Apple is rejoicing now as they’ve managed to kneel two important names in the race they’re already ahead of the competition.
