It’s interesting to see big names in the IT industry fighting each other in completely different official statements, just like in a cock fight, but in the end the market decides who’s the winner. That’s how it is and how it will ever be. Today we have Microsoft pitted against Nvidia in the tablet wars, if you like, where both companies have completely different opinions on Android OS and it’s purpose in life.

On one hand Steve Guggenheimer, Microsoft’s OEM vice president, says Android is just an experiment, is citing the netbook market, where first models started off with Linux installations, but making then the switch to Windows, who now ‘owns’ 95% of the market. It’s hard to dissagree with Steve, but we also know that Android sells so well in US that it even surpassed Apple with its iPhone OS. That’s why I believe the wheel won’t turn on Microsoft too soon, but the market evolution might be just a little bit different as I see Windows 7 very good for convertible tablets, you know, the ones you could use for work, and Android/iPhone OS I see like the ideal operating systems for media devices, slim and light with no keyboard.

Now, getting back to Nvidia, they’re one of the big supporters of Android tablets, maybe because their Tegra 2 chip is well suited for this OS. Nvidia reckons the power of Android, who managed to get together hardware manufacturers on the same path. Of course Nvidia says that Android needs some polishing (and we all believe the same) but also says Google knows this and tries to improve even more in each new release. Also according to Nvidia, Windows 7 is too big and has too many functions to work properly into a media consumption device.

How about you, which side are you on?
