Microsoft is a big company, one of the biggest actually in the IT world, and is no wonder they’re trying to catch up as much market share as possible when it comes to tablet operating systems, but this year hasn’t seen too many Windows 7 powered slates as HP postponed indefinitely their HP Slate, Dell uses Android (like many others) and ASUS, Sony, Samsung, LG and other big names have just announced their intentions to launch tablets, but nothing certain yet about features, pricing and availability.

Well, it seems we don’t know the things Steve Ballmer knows, as he just announced at the opening of Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference that many many tablets are coming in the next months on market and they will be powered by Windows 7. Anyway, as you can imagine, not much details have surfaced, but this interesting speech lets us believe Microsoft is working closely with its partners to bring tablets with bearing a Windows OS as fast as possible to market, in time for the shopping holiday this winter.

Microsoft also says their slates will be office friendly, but I highly doubt that, as for now the main use for tablets is entertainment, not productivity, but things can change, I agree. Only time will tell what Steve Ballmer meant by ‘soon’ and how much is ‘many’. Hope he’s not just bragging and that they really have something to say about tablets.
