I’ve presented the Gigabyte TouchNote T1028 convertible tablet wish netbook internals a few months ago and I wasn’t that impressed as the price was a little too high compared to similar competing products. It seems that Gigabyte is pushing new convertible tablets from the T1000 series, which might be better equipped and cheaper too. The two models presented by Gigabyte in Taiwan are TouchNote T1000X and T1000P.

Both models feature the Atom N450 CPU running at 1.66 GHz, a 10.1 inch screen with 720 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, 1 GB RAM and a 250 GB 5400 RPM hard drive. As the names suggest there are also a few differences, and they’re not minor: T1000X has a single touch screen while T1000P supports multitouch and comes with a bigger battery plant: 6 cell 7650 mAh versus 4 cell 4500 mAh. Gigabyte TouchNote T1000X weights less at 1.3 kg, versus 1.48 for the multi touch version, T1000P.

Both models have a chiclet keyboard, this being a distinctive difference from the previous T1028 convertible tablet PC. A 3G modem can be installed afterward, but you’ll have to pay for that. I don’t know anything about price yet, but next week at CeBIT Gigabyte will make some official announcements so join us next week to stay informed.
