Maybe I’ve labeled incorrectly the gestural interface presented by Hitachi as a touchscreen interface, but it’s clear it has something to do with your fingers, but has the advantage that you don’t have to really touch the screen, leaving smudges and fingerprints all over. Plus you don’t have to be that close to the screen to ‘command’ it.

If you want to compare it to something you’ve seen it’s the Minority Report movie, where Tom Cruise is controlling multiple screens by flicking his hands around. That’s that the Hitachi demo does, exactly the same, but the screen aren’t holograms (or semitransparent). According to Hitachi, this tech could make its entrance in 2011 in economic sectors where a few thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars are not a problem and where this tech could really help improve performance and productivity.

From what I see below this really is something I would like to have in my home in a few years. Take a look for yourself:

And what this concept was first shown in Minority Report. Told you it was cool!
