It was about time to take a look at a DIY home project that involves some kind of touch screen technology. So here it is: a developer, a genius nonetheless, has turned his living room wall into a giant touchscreen by using his Android headset, a projector and a Microsoft Kinect sensor.

    After installing a custom ROM on the Android headset and doing some PC programming he was able to make the Kinect detect his hand’s movement on the wall and send the gesture information via his PC to the Android smartphone, thus remotely controlling it, just like he were swiping his fingers on the actual screen.

    The projector is used to display the smartphone ‘desktop’ and acts as a delimiter for the touch screen wall area detected by the Kinect sensor. This kind of technology could be used in presentation rooms, if you need a reason to justify the coolness of this mod. I can’t wait to see what the future control interfaces will look like and what what they will use nest (hopefully our thoughts).
