Even if there are a lot of companies out there offering multi touch enabled gadgets only a few of them are actually making any touch screens, so the number of touchscreen technologies is very limited. That’s why when a newcomer announces a new technology and says it’s got some funding support already the press is starting to take notice.

That’s the case with FlatFrog that recently got their hands on 18 millions $ worth of funding to continue R&D and commercialization of their planar scatter detection touch screen which was already demonstrated to work on a 40 inch device called FlatFrog Multitouch 4000, similar to Microsoft’s surface but much cheaper and way slimmer at just 10 cm including screen, touch layer and the computer behind it controlling the whole thing.

As others have said, FlatFrog’s technology has nothing special, besides the fact that it just works, and that’s a plus plus it can detect up to 24 simultaneous touch points with ease. The short video below shows exactly what their tech is capable of:

I guess the investors don’t want to lose the wagon of touch tablet market that’s supposed to skyrocket next years. They know they can’t afford to not invest in every company that shows promising results as it might get to be the next big thing in just a few months. It happened in the pre dot com bubble era and it will happen again folks.
