We all know that the biggest component consuming power in today’s mobile devices is the screen. We all like nice colors, great viewing angles and such but we don’t realize how much this is affecting battery life. E-Ink is one of the pioneer companies that invested a lot in low power displays like their eInk lineup consisting of monochrome displays that don’t need power to keep an image on the screen, but only when the image changes.
As imagined, those kind of screens are ideal for eBook readers like the Kindle (that uses an eInk display). Things are changing, as E-Ink announced they’re ready to start producing the first color eInk displays and touchscreen models. Of course things are just at beginning, but depending on market response we might see eInk type screen into a lot of gadgets, where 120 Hz refresh rate is not that important compared to direct sunlight legibility. The future looks eInk!

Eink was more about the ability to read the device rather than low power. Low power is just a by product because screen only updating device as you change page. If you use it for anything else screen power will increase considerably
