We’ve told you a while ago about Cisco’s plans to launch a business tablet for professionals. Back then it was just a rumor, but now we have certainty, as Cisco officially announced the Cisco Cius Android tablet for professionals.

Basically we have a 7 inch Android tablet that focuses more on the business features than entertainment, a complete turn around from what 2010 tablet are all about.

This makes it unique and suitable for businesses where the iPad doesn’t stand a chance. The 7 inch form factor means that it’s also more pocket-able and easier to use on the road.

So without further due, let’s see what the Cisco Cius is all about:

    • Atom Processor 1.6Ghz
    • 32GB of Flash storage
    • 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, 3G/4G
    • Bluetooth 3
    • HD video (720p) with Cisco TelePresence
    • 7” diagonal (resolution probably 800 x 480 but not confirmed)
    • External display support
    • 8-hour battery
    • 1.5lbs

If you look at those specs there’s nothing really special, but Cisco says the software package is the one that matters, as they’ve focused on a few key areas like: HD videoconferencing, virtual desktop client, highly secured remote connections, open source software and collaboration applications (Cisco Quad, Cisco Show and Share, WebEx). Connectivity is another strong point for Cisco Cius, so you have everything you ever dreamed of: 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, 10/100/1000 Ethernet connection, 3G/4G data and Bluetooth 3.0.

Below there’s a video with some PR talk from Cisco presenting the business advantages of Cius. Till we test it we have to believe Cisco’s statement I guess. Availability is shady, with rumored appearance in 2011.
