One of my favourite tablets that fell into my hands this year, the 7 inch Blackberry Playbook tablet just got better as a discount up to $150 has been applied by the BestBuy retailer. As the HP Touchpad significant price discount has shown us, people will buy even a dying tablet if the price is right.
It’s not the case with the Blackberry Playbook, a tablet that RIM is updating each month, but the same pricing as the iPad 2 is not doing it any favours. So it’s clear why Best Buy decided to discount it up to $150, depending on model.
The discount is live today, so here’s what you can get right now – link
$549 for a 64 GB tablet is very good, so it might be worth waiting for RIM to bring email, calendar and contacts functionality later this year. The 32 GB model is priced the same as the 64 GB so be careful what you add in your shopping cart. It would be a pity not to get the free upgrade to 64 GB. I don’t know if the discount was applied by Best Buy only or it’s a general thing, but browsing on Amazon I’ve seen the 16 GB model for $428, the 32 GB one for $547 and the bigger 64 GB model for $674[details here].
It seems like a completely different strategy for the two retailers. Personally I would get the cheapest one, but if you’re planning on storing your videos directly on the tablet and viewing them from there I suggest you step up to the 64 GB Blackberry Playbook as there’s no microSD expansion slot on the 7 inch tablet.
