As you already know, by far the best touchscreen technology today is capacitive in nature, but the downsize now is the high production cost of bigger diagonal display panels plus the inability to build bigger size screens, a problem that prohibits proliferation of bigger diagonal multi touchscreens.
This situation is it change soon, as Chunghwa Picture Tube (CPT) announced they’re working on a 21.5 diagonal projective capacitive touchscreen that will hit market next year. Projective capacitive technology works by laminating a thin grid of wires in-between two layers of glass that responds to capacitance formed between the fingertip and that grid. This technology is different from in-cell photo sensing and classic optical touchscreens.
Price is not important because you can’t buy panels in small quantities, but you’ll definitely appreciate the gadgets that will hit shelves next year. [source]
