BenQ is not particularly a big player in the IT industry but they have their strengths when it comes to projectors and monitors. Recently they’ve shown an ambition in making a living from the tablet niche, one that seems to be growing at a fast pace these days (see all the announcements made at IFA Berlin for example). Their product, showcased a few days ago, is called the nReader R100 and you should guess it focuses on eBook readering, which makes us if this is ever gonna try and compete with the more powerful rivals in the industry.

Apparently BenQ settled for a 10.1 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution, but with resistive touchscreen on top of it, which surely will affect price (in a good way) and responsiveness (in the worst way). The whole thing is powered by a not all so mighty 667 MHz Samsung processor, that’s still capable of running Android 2.2 OS nicely (according to BenQ). On board we will have HDMI output, mini USB with USB host function, Wi-Fi and 3G support, SDXC card slot and an estimated 12 hours battery life, all in a 700 grams package.

All we need to do now is wait to see how much it will cost, when the BenQ nReader R100 will ship in Q1 2011.
