If Apple turns out to have made the best slate type tablet around this could mean not only a high demand for tablet devices (not only Apple) but also a new territory where Apple steps in: eBook sales as a 10 inch tablet will surely be used as a reader device, especially if it will last a full day without recharging.

Of course eReaders last a lot more but they display black and white text with no pictures, videos or interactivity whatsoever, so a fully capable slim reader like Apple iSlate will be the first choice for many users.

If you link this fact with the latest news which state that HarperCollins is in talks with Apple to get a distribution agreement signed for their books as they believe an ebook with graphics and access to social media tools can be sold for more than current eBooks you see the idea is not absurd at all.

All this means Amazon has something to fear, especially if Apple makes a daring move and offers iSlate for a low price (subsidized or not), comparable to the 200 $ and something asked for Amazon’s Kindle eReader. Of course we’ll have to wait a few weeks before things clear out on Apple’s 27th of January announcement event, where the iSlate is expected to see the light of day.
