To say that Apple is an innovative company is a understatement. They are a company always trying to improve on previous generation of products and made huge improvements in human interaction and interface design plus always tried to improve the quality of interaction by using top notch components that reduce lag or use very good screens that offer unmatched performance (imagine how good they are if I’m not an Apple fan and I wrote the words above).
As we know touch screen technologies have the disadvantage of reducing contrast, screen brightness and kill viewing angles. Apple wants to improve on this and recently filed a patent for a new type of display that doesn’t use any additional layers over the display, but use special designed pixels with dual function: one for showing the picture, one for detecting input using a capacitive method.

This new patent is meant to increase color contrast and brightness on the screens is most likely will appear in the next generation iPod, iPhone and maybe MacBook PROs. I could try and explain how this technology works but I’m betting I won’t be able to understand it myself, so even less explaining it to you.
