Sources amongst notebook developers say that Google is working on the finishing touches for the 3.0 version on Android – Gingerbread, and are ready to provide it to tablet PC engineer samples.
That being set, there is no reason not to expect the battery of Gingerbread tablets to hit the shelves starting December 2010. Acer, Asustek, HTC, Motorola and Samsung are eager to get their hands on the new OS and launch their new tablet models.
The main reason why there is so much hype around Android 3.0 is that the OS, specifically designed for tablets (as opposed to the 2.x versions which were designed for smartphones), is very cheap. Costs for adopting the Android, at $10 a piece, are 5 times lower than for Windows 7.
As this is going on, plans for the Android 4.0 are already being made. The product has no major guidelines yet, and all that is known ist hat it’s completion date is mid-2011. Other than that, sources also claim it will be called Ice Cream (which is as inventive as other Android names, Froyo and Gingerbead), but no official statement has been made just yet.
