Some see iPad as a revolutionary product, others see the limitations imposed by Apple but I’m sure Amazon sees it as a threat to Kindle’s supremacy, the eReader that’s being now challenged by a device that does other things than just reading books and has the iBooks store behind it to support further growth in books segment.

Found itself  in this position Amazon bought Touchco, a company that specializes in building cheap touch panes for any size. And it get’s better: all screens are multi touch enabled and can detect indefinite simultaneous touches. Sounds amazing, especially considering the 10$ price per square foot and the resistive technology behind it. No, wait, I’ve got two more: they’re completely transparent and can detect different pressure levels. If you look at what I’ve just told you I wonder why didn’t another big company bought Touchco a long time ago.

If I were Amazon I would definitely do something else, completely new, with this touch screen technology inherited from Touchco, like challenging the iPad with a device that could multi touch better and has a bigger eBook store behind it. Amazon could extend this business further with a music/movie store as they already sell on demand media on their online store. An app store could be just a step away then. But I’m not Amazon so we’ll just have to wait and see what the giant will do next.
