Windows 7 is a great desktop OS, but when it comes to tablets it has some problems, mainly because it’s not perfectly optimized for touch input and consumes a lot of resource. This doesn’t mean you won’t see enough Windows 7 tablets on market.
I love when small companies challenge the big players, just like Netbook Navigator did with its Nav 9 slate type tablet which houses a small netbook inside an already known form factor. What I don't like is when they put price tags way higher than the competition. Unfortunately this is what Netbook Navigator did with Nav 9, which sells for 799$ to 1399$ with all upgrades in place. There are over 25 possible combination but the asking price is way too much, even if you get the illusion you'll ...
Remember the EROS tablet from China? If I were to resume it in a few words I would say: slate, replica, Atom, Windows 7. You get the point, it's a Chinese replica of the iPad slate design, powered by netbook hardware that runs Windows 7. Today I've got my hands on a video showing a user interacting with EROS.As expected there's not much to see as it runs pretty slow, exactly like other netbooks running Windows 7, plus you pretty much need a stylus everywhere you go because Microsoft did no...
iPad is essentially a mobile device running smartphone hardware on a big 9.7 inch screen, so it's expected to run a mobile operating system like iPhone OS, Android or maybe Windows Mobile, with appropriate drivers, of course. On the other hand, Citrix, a company that deals with virtualization software, built a virtual machine using the iPad SDK simulator that allow Windows 7 to run native on the iPad.The software is called XenDesktop 4 is capable of running an unmodified version of Windows 7...
It is expected for a lot of iPads lookalikes to hit the market soon for two reasons: everyone is copying the best, that's a fact and the iPad has a simple design so it's hard not to do a slate type PC that won't look like an iPad at least in terms of design. ExoPC is a 8.9 inch (1024 x 600 pixels screen) slate that does the latter, as it features a different hardware inside: Windows 7 Professional powered by an Atom N270 CPU running at 1.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, a 32 GB SSD drive expandable with the use...
I believe that slate tablets need to be small, slim and low weight to catch on to people as a navigation/multimedia device that you can use while sitting in a bus, waiting on a line and such. A 10 inch diagonal screen means it's not pocketable at all and I find the 7 inch diagonal (like the first netbooks from ASUS) the sweet spot. Netbook Navigator, a pretty unknown manufacturer, thinks the same as it announced the 701A-NN slate type tablet running Windows 7 Starter edition on a 7 inch multi to...
It's pretty odd to launch a touch tablet now, just a few days after CES has ended and tablets got their 15 minutes of fame but DigitalRise (known for its iPhone clones) did it and it's not that crappy as it seems, packing an Atom CPU with all the connectivity features like 3G (WCDMA-SCDMA, CDMA200 variant), WiFi and GPS into a slate type body. The screen is a 10.2 inch multi touch display (1024 x 600 pixels) but we don't know yet if it's a capacitive or resistive display. But we know about th...
Gateway is one of the few US PC manufacturers that always has something different to offer, design or spec wise. The EC18T touch Tablet PC is no exceptions as it combines the 11.6 screen form factor with top of the line specs: Core 2 Duo CPU, 4 GB RAM and Intel Mobile GS45 Chipset. The OS will be from Windows 7 family: Home Premium of basic. The Gateway EC18T will be available in two color variants: black of red. On the plus side there's a HDMI port for big screen output. We hope there's mult...
Everybody liked the Acer Timeline 1810T, with it's better than Atom performance and near 8 hours of battery life between charges, but there was something missing: the touch tablet PC treatment. We're happy to announce that Acer made that step and announced the 1820p, the tablet variant of the Timeline product series. The main difference is of course the swivel touch screen and the OS: Acer Timeline 1820p only ships with Windows 7. Oh, and weight is up by 300 grams due to the screen swivel mec...
