Whether you like it or not, Microsoft is one of the leading companies when it comes to bringing new technologies to market. Their latest endeavor is the Manual Deskterity project which tries to build a special type of software interface that will permit use of finger touch and pen input at the same time. This makes for a great tool to note down your creative ideas using an interactive table or a plain touchscreen tablet.Current devices are build for either pen or finger input and even if you...
We've talked a few times about the HP Slate tablet, presented by Steve Ballmer during CES 2010, which is supposed to be a direct competitor to the Apple iPad slate tablet. A lot of rumors have appeared during past months about this mysterious product, but not much more than that.Today it's time to take a first look at the specs and see also at a short video with the main features, which by the way, seems a direct hit on the iPad's lack of USB port, webcam/digital camera and memory card expan...
JooJoo is for me the anti-iPad and I'm going to tell you why. First, it managed to gather a lot of negative press articles, contrary to the iPad, which managed to turn heads all over the web on tech sites, blogs and celebrities sites. Second the JooJoo user interface is made in Flash, whilst the iPad doesn't support flash at all.The iPad is small and lightweight while JooJoo features a bigger screen and not so light body. The price is the only thing that brings the two of them together: 500$...
As expected, because the iPad is not compatible with Flash, Adobe turned its attention on adversaries, in this case the Windows 7 platform for tablets and has put up an interesting video explaining how Adobe AIR and Flash will be part of the multimedia and browsing experience you would encounter on a Windows based tablet. Almost all info on this demo video highlights the advantages of using technologies already popular and says nothing about iPad, but we all know that's what they're aiming at. I...
Now with 5 days till the official shipping launch in stores of the iPad it's time to take a short look at the main features of this tablet: Apple just uploaded on their website the official Guided Tours of iPad's main features. As expected, you can't embed them. It would be too open from Apple's part, but I guess anyone can type www.apple.com on their browser and take a look at those high quality videos (the printscreen below is from one of them). From a quick look at them I've seen that tapp...
I bet you all wonder how the apps will look on the new big screen iPad tablet. If you believe it's just an enlarged iPhone you might be wrong. Of course old apps will look a little bit odd once scaled up, but native iPad apps will be more like desktop apps.We have below a series of videos with some apps (SmartNote, PadNotes, Mixr, Carters Encyclopaedia, Chalk iPad App, MightyMeetings, TwitePad), made using the iPad simulator provided by Apple to developers.Source: Labnol...
No, it's just a question, not news, nor a rumor. Designer Umang Dokey imagined such a tablet running Windows Phone 7 series OS, adapted for the bigger 8 inch screen. He went as far as rendering this device and made a short video clip that better explains his concept, a tablet with integrate stand that if it is folded in front of the screen can be used also as a keyboard (I'm curios how it should be balanced so that it doesn't fall on its back).Other nice features include dual webcams for 3D ...
I really hope the guys behind Notion Ink Adam and Pixel QI screen will get their product on market this year, as for me this is the best slate tablet concept and most promising at the same time, being the perfect mix of portability, battery life, multimedia raw power and eBook reader. Even if Mobile World Congress is a trade show dedicated to smart phones and small computing devices, past years saw an increase in participation from manufacturers that are dealing with bigger mobile gadgets like, ...
If there's something I hate about exciting product launches is the fact there's a big gap between the time some novelty is announced and the moment you can really purchase it. The same happened with the Acer 1820p convertible tablet, powered by an Intel low voltage CPU that represents at this time the best compromise between performance and power consumption. At Mobile World Congress Acer showcased what I guess is the final version of the 1820p running with TouchPortal, an interface on top of...
There are already a few months since we've heard about Dell's Mini 5 tablet, codenamed Streak, a 5 inch Android MID that's marketed as a mini touch tablet. Specs were leaked (or released, if you may) to general public one by one, such as the 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, the 1500 mAh battery that's supposed to last a day long, the 1 GHz snapdragon CPU, the over-the-air updates for further Android versions and customized gadgets developed by Dell to ship with the device, like the Facebo...
