Have you ever used a touch screen phone or mobile device and find yourself frustrated because of small UI touch elements that can't be selected with ease? What about two completely different options that are too close to each other and instead of renaming a file you accidentally delete it? That's because there's not a standard for how touch user interfaces should be made. Of course different manufacturers have their own guidelines, but there's no universal rule and this has one big effect on c...
JooJoo is for me the anti-iPad and I'm going to tell you why. First, it managed to gather a lot of negative press articles, contrary to the iPad, which managed to turn heads all over the web on tech sites, blogs and celebrities sites. Second the JooJoo user interface is made in Flash, whilst the iPad doesn't support flash at all. The iPad is small and lightweight while JooJoo features a bigger screen and not so light body. The price is the only thing that brings the two of them together: 500$...
If there's something I hate about exciting product launches is the fact there's a big gap between the time some novelty is announced and the moment you can really purchase it. The same happened with the Acer 1820p convertible tablet, powered by an Intel low voltage CPU that represents at this time the best compromise between performance and power consumption. At Mobile World Congress Acer showcased what I guess is the final version of the 1820p running with TouchPortal, an interface on top of...
Wired is one of the most respected tech magazines out there, but they're also facing the problems of classic media which now fights to find a business model that allows them to go online and get the same readers who pay for content to do it in the new environment. One of the suggested methods that everyone seems to embrace is the release of special digital versions, interactive in nature that add to the value of the typical articles published offline. Wired is not the first magazine to build ...
I hate when producers announce new products and then let you boil in your own juice while waiting for official release to market. That's the case with many convertible tablets based on netbook hardware, like the ASUS EEE PC T101MT, which we've seen in January during CES, but didn't hear anything about it ever since. [caption id="attachment_1431" align="aligncenter" width="540" caption="Asus EEE PC T101MT user interface"][/caption] Till today, when we've got our hands on a short video demon...
There are quite a few articles on AllTouchTablet about touchscreen technologies and future types of interfaces that might replace current ones, so here's another one, GestIC, a concept that uses electric field sensing to detect 3D spacial movement away from the detector. The technology was developed by a German research company Ident. [caption id="attachment_1346" align="aligncenter" width="600" caption="The Gesture Cube"][/caption] This technology was better explained with the use on a Ge...
There’s no question that the vast majority of people already know what a Touch Tablet PC is: a sort of notebook with a screen that allows for touch input from the user and there are two big variations: ones without a keyboard and some with 180 degrees pivoting screen. Now that the financial crysis has effects all over the place it’s the best time to ask yourself: why would I need a Tablet PC and is it worth the price difference from a regular laptop? In this post I’ll try and make a s...
