While the current quad-core tablets (actually only the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer Prime is for sale) are certainly impressive in terms of performance, surpassing easily the iPad 2, it's fair to assume that the upcoming iPad 3 will make sure to close this gap, or even go one step further.Samsung is not taking any chances, so it seem that at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona next month it will introduce a new Galaxy TAB with the new dual-core Exynos 5250 2GHz processor clocked at 2GHz, a ...
I love when manufacturers make concept videos showing what the company is thinking about on the long term, and the latest transparent tablet concept from Samsung really makes me dream of the times when we'll be able to buy such devices. Before we get to the video let me tell you a little bit about what Samsung has imagined: a completely transparent display capable of rendering full color images, a variable size (don't know how this can be achieved in practice), a bendable shape and integrated...
Samsung is a big player in the smartphone and tablet markets, but it relies heavily on Android at this point. Now the company is looking to strengthen its relationship with Microsoft, a traditional partner, but one that didn't receive too much attention lately from the Korean company, except maybe whet it comes to laptops.Samsung surprised us by announcing the Series 7 Slate Tablet last week at IFA Berlin, a typical 11.6 inch slate tablet with Intel based hardware, that's supposed to be upgr...
10 years ago we had desktops and laptops. Now we have tablets, netbook, ultraportables, mainstream laptops, gaming laptops, smartphones and convertible tablets. Each gap between size tends to be filled with a new type of device. Samsung is rumored to be working on a 5.3 inch tablet, a bridge between large screen smartphones and 7 inch tablets. Dell tried to do the same last year with the Dell Streak 5, but it was far from success, both because of unusual size and antiquated software: it run on...
I'm sure I've told you about the upcoming Samsung 8.9 inch tablet that's due for official announcement on March 22nd. As that days approaches, Samsung likes to throw new teasers at us, this time on a bigger scale, showing a few frugal details of their new tablet. Don't expect specs form me, as I haven't got them, but I can tell you it doesn't seem like a wide format tablet, but something with a 4:3 ratio screen. I may be wrong, but the teaser shows clearly a squarish tablet with rounded edges (l...
You like that iPad 2 with its 8.8 mm of thickness? I bet you do, but watch yourself not to get cut. This could be the problem with future tablets: too slim that you can injure yourself during use. I personally don't understand why this race for the slimmest tablet (or laptop for that matter). Everyone wants a slim device, but there's a point where thinness doesn't matter, or the weight of the device. If you've ever hold the Vaio X netbook in hand you know what I'm talking about: it seems like a ...
The gap between 7 and 10 inches is pretty big if you ask me. I always thought that something intermediate could prove the best portable size for some users. After playing with the iPad at home and with the Samsung Galaxy TAB on few occasions (the first 7 inch version) I have to say that the rumor Samsung is working on an 8.9 inch tablet doesn't seem that crazy to me. If you think about it, it's not that hard to fit the same components (maybe upgraded a little bit) from the 7 inch model into a ...
You know when we've told you that next gen Samsung tablets will use powerful dual core CPUs and quad core graphics chips? Scratch that for now, as it seems the second generation Samsung Galaxy TAB tablet will just use the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset, one of the most talked (and less implemented) tablet platforms in 2010. The decision could have something to do with Samsung waiting to finalize their ARM Cortex A9 SoC (System on a Chip) design. That doesn't mean the Tegra 2 platform is not suitable for...
Have you ever stopped to think about why Intel is so present in our everyday gadgets than AMD? Is it the fact that they make faster processors than the competition? No, it's not that, it's the money they have, that allows them to push their products to consumers via ad campaigns like the one they're preparing for the next gen Oak Trail Atom CPUs, which will debut in Q1 2011. And they're doing it right, by sponsoring vendors like ASUS, Acer, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba to advertise products powered...
One of the most interesting iPad alternative is definitely the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which will deput in US this week as a 7 inch tablet. Samsung is hoping to sell a couple of millions of those in the months to come and is even working on a higher diagonal, 10 inch tablet Galaxy TAB which should appear in stores in the first half of next year. Some say it will use an AMOLED display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S bestseller (3 millions sold in US only this year), but others are pointing towards an...
