One of the most anticipated tablets of 2011 must be the rumored iPad 2, that’s for sure. After the success of the first iPad, everybody is waiting to see what Apple will come up with for the second model. We’ve covered a lot of the rumors floating the web, but it seems new bits of info appear every day, so it’s time for a new roundup of iPad 2 rumors. Some sources say iPad 2 and iPhone 5 will make the switch to Qualcomm chipsets, ditching the ones from Infineon, that are only compatible with the GSM standard. It seems [...]

Original article: iPad 2 to switch to Qualcomm chips, bring four times the resolution of current display

We all know performance is the one indicator that makes possible all those gadgets that are becoming smaller and smaller, while offering more features. If it wasn’t for chipset manufacturers the iPad wouldn’t have gotten that thin, the netbooks wouldn’t have gotten up to 10 hours battery life and so on. It’s no wonder then that Qualcomm si already in talks with more than 10 companies to bring to market their dual core Snapdragon CPUs clocked at over 1.2 GHz. And what better device to put a dual core mobile chip than a tablet, says Qualcomm, who stated that they [...]

Original article: Qualcomm working with 10 companies to bring dual core tablets in 2011

What strikes me is that at CES 2010 many mobile devices were powered not by low power Intel chips but by the latest generation Qualcomm SnapDragon processors running at 1 GHz. This means of course no Windows 7 OS, but the simpler (from resources point of view) Android OS and other Linux variants. Qualcomm had at its booth a running prototype named SnapTop, a kind of touch tablet with a detachable Bluetoot keyboard and desk stand that both snap from the back of the device. Otherwise there’s the same 9 inch display with resistive touchscreen input on an Android OS [...]

Original article: Qualcomm Snaptop prototype features Bluetooth keyboard
