Huawei S7 tablet preview

Huawei is not really a big brand but they are a pretty big hardware manufacturer, who managed to bring a lot of value products sold directly under their brand, via OEM contracts or mobile operator deals. The Huawei S7 slate tablet is maybe their try to make a name of themselves, as it is a 7 inch tablet which looks nice and features normal Android tablet hardware hardware specs for this moment and keeps a pretty affordable price tag of 370 €/299£ (will sell only via Expansys at the moment)...

Toshiba Libretto W100 gets a preview and launch date

Toshiba proved once again it's the kind of company that sets trends, don't follow them, with the official announcement of the Libretto W100 dual screen touch tablet with two 7 inch multi touch enabled displays. We know now that the Libretto W100 is not a concept, but a consumer product you'll be able to actually buy starting August, from Amazon, for around 1000$. That's a little bit too much for a laptop with an ULV CPU and a second screen, but that's the price to pay for being an early adopter....

Asus Eee Pad EP121 gets a video preview

Remember the Asus EEE Pad EP121, presented at Computex? Apparently ASUS is working hard at bringing it to market, as some guy in Poland (editor at CHIP magazine) got to play a little with a prototype. I'm not sure it was a working one, but it's the first time we clearly see how the removable keyboard (including a second battery and storage) really works. There's not much to say about this hands on, besides the fact that the prototype looks really good, with great overall finish. I can't say m...

Dell Streak (Mini 5 tablet) launches in June, gets previewed

Remember when we've told you that the Dell Streak will launch in Europe this summer and then in the US, a few months later? It seems we were right as O2 announced the availability of Dell Streak Mini 5 tablet sometime in June.Interesting enough, Dell announced that later this year the update to Android 2.2 will be made available for Streak also, which means that at least for now you're covered when it comes to updates. What I don't like about this announcement is the lack of news about pr...

Archos 7 Home Tablet shows up on Amazon for 199$

We've told you about Archos's perspective on a touch tablet: it has to be cheap, easy to use and offer good multimedia capabilities. Well, the Archos 7 Home Tablet surely accomplishes all those requirements as it just surfaced on Amazon for 199$ (will ship in a few days). Beat that Apple! Not quite, I would say, as those products couldn't be more different. The Archos 7 Home Tablet is not meant as a portable computer replacement, but a mere mobile device you use at home to listen to music, wa...

Early HP Slate review confirms slow performance

HP Slate is one of the devices many await for, in hope that it will outperform iPad in sales, celebrity and user respect (that one might not be true) as it was announced somewhat at the same time with the iPad, in a classic Mac vs Windows duel. As expected the two different ideologies meet also here, with the iPad being light, fast and features a great design while the HP Slate is heavier and slower ('thanks' to the Atom netbook CPU) and is not really a design marvel.A few moments ago a Span...

JooJoo Flash interface video preview

JooJoo is for me the anti-iPad and I'm going to tell you why. First, it managed to gather a lot of negative press articles, contrary to the iPad, which managed to turn heads all over the web on tech sites, blogs and celebrities sites. Second the JooJoo user interface is made in Flash, whilst the iPad doesn't support flash at all.The iPad is small and lightweight while JooJoo features a bigger screen and not so light body. The price is the only thing that brings the two of them together: 500$...

Acer 1825PTZ appears in video preview

I've told you last week about the Acer 1825PT and 1825PTZ convertible tablets the surfaced the web in a list of specs and now it's time to face the second one in a long and artistic video preview. This preview is intended, I believe, to showcase the construction and screen interaction with the capacitive screen. Also in the video below there is a portion that shows how various apps run on the Acer 1825PTZ powered by the Intel SU  7300 Ultra Low Voltage CPU, which does a much better job then ...

Archos 7 cheap tablet previewed during CeBIT 2010

As promised, Archos has launched at Cebit his so called home tablets, Archos 7 and Archos 8, which distinctive price characteristics that puts them in the affordable range. Of course there ware compromises to be made, so some of you could be disappointed because they perform pretty slow (cheap CPUs), but it all depends on how you balance price and performance in your own value system.Archos 7 Home Tablet is a 7 inch 800x480 screen tablet, running Android powered by 600MHz ARM9-based Rockchip...

DigitalRise X9 netbook tablet preview

For me the best way to make a touch tablet is to take netbook hardware, strip the keyboard off and that's it: you got a fully fledged computer running a modern OS on a device that should cost a dime, just like a netbook does. Unfortunately things are not quite going like this, as current netbook tablets don't sell for 300-400$, but for prices way out of the 'normal' league: 700-800 $ or even more. That's the case too with the DigitalRise X9 netbook tablet, a classic Atom powered device, with ...
