Netvertible is a term that describes classic convertibe tablet PC’s with netbook hardware inside. Netvertibles are small, offer touch capabilities, a hardware keyboard and have a lower price than typical tablet PC’s. Keep in mind that netvertibles are not that powerful when it comes to computing power.
Remember the ASUS T101MT netvertible from last year? I've tested it here and here and found it one of the best convertible netbooks at that date, despite its early touchscreen accuracy of the pre-production sample I've received. It's still unmatched as price and features are concerned, but the single core 1.66 GHz Atom N450 CPU is starting to feel really antiquated (not that Atoms are modern anyway). That's why ASUS decided it's time for an upgrade of its T101MT small 10 inch convertible tablet ...
I'm sure you haven't heard of Gigabyte Booktop T1125N (even if we've covered a rumor a while ago), as I've just found a review about this 11.6 inch convertible tablet that's already shipping in US and Europe. It's like if Gigabyte has made everything possible to launch their tablet PC in secrecy. After reading the review I must admit I don't understand Gigabyte's position, as the Booktop T1125N is a very capable tablet PC which can be used as a desktop replacement without having to deal with p...
One of the brands that failed to deliver a tablet this year is Acer. Sure they've talked about them, but they're not here, and this is what matters after all. Apparently Acer didn't want to leave things like this and today announced in a large press event it's plans for the tablet market, plans that will start next years, once they'll begin shipping of the products presented today. And let me tell you, there's plenty to talk about, as Acer announced three tablets, with 5, 7 and 10 inch diagonal ...
It's not the first time we talk here about tablets for kids, and probably won't be the last time. The newest addition to the list of netvertibles your kids would love is the PeeWee Pivot 2.0. It's the 'classic' netvertible in terms of hardware: Atom N450 CPU, 10 inch display with two resolutions: 1024 x 600 standard, and optional 1366 x 768 pixels, but I would keep the default option for my kids and you should too, if you care about their eye sight. The list goes on with integrated Intel Graphic...
If you ask me one of the best convertible netbooks around is the ASUS T101MT, which we've reviewed here as a worldwide premiere. While there are quite a few other interesting devices, like the Gigabyte T1000P, those netvertibles are sometimes too expensive or are too late on market or simply there are not available, so people can't get them even if they wanted to. The same goes for the aforementioned Gigabyte T1000P and T1000X netbook tablets, which are the second generation of Gigabyte netverti...
On paper, the Gigabyte T1000P netvertible is one of the best around, hell, we've even put it in our list of the best netvertibles, despite its apparent problems. We are glad to find out that Gigabyte is preparing a successor, the T1005M, one that bears the new dual core Atom N550 chip, characterized by many as the first speedy low power netbook CPU. Speedy because it's almost twice as fast, while consuming less than twice the power, as the official TDP is 8.5 Watts (see a few benchmarks of Atom ...
There aren't too many convertible netbook tablets on the market today (see the list of netvertibles here) and any new product is welcome to increase the options consumers have. The Swift i-Touch by DTK is what you would call a typical netbook tablet, with a 10 inch screen (no idea if it's HD ready) and an Atom N450 CPU, helped by 1GB RAM (why not 2 GB is beyond my understanding), a 320 GB hard drive. Add to that a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, optional 3G and you have a clear picture of what's goi...
I've always complained that the Atom CPU is only good for low power consumption. You can't actually do any work on it because it's too slow. Now Intel seems to really take this problem into consideration with the Atom N550, the first dual core Atom specially designed for tablets and netbooks. The first benchmarks show the new CPU almost doubles the performance of the N450 Pinetrail model in ZIP archiving benchmark. That's because of the two physical cores and the two virtual ones provided by Hyp...
Netvertible is a term that defines a convertible tablet PC with netbook hardware inside. It's not an official term, but this also happens with touch tablets, which don't have really an official naming yet. A netvertible is the best choice when it comes to buying a tablet PC shaped computer with the advantages that derive from the netbook specifications: size, battery life and price. To be frank with you there are also downsides to a netbook tablet PC and the biggest is performance, or the lack o...
Another IT show, another niche comes up. As CeBIT just started I come upon the official release of Intel's new Convertible Classmate PC, a cheap learning computer that people are calling netvertible (I suppose comes from the combination of netbook and convertible). Looking behind marketing names this is a classic convertible netbook tablet, but with a more childish look, exactly what you would buy your kid before going to school. Let's see what the new device brings to the Classmate series and i...
