Most tablets released this year have the same form factor: slate with ports on the side and maybe a few capacitive buttons for the Android OS/Windows 7 on the edges of the screen. Is really hard to distinguish models one from each other when looking from the front. Some brands put their big logo on the back, but that’s pretty much the only differentiating factor. Apparently NEC’s LifeTouch Note, presented at MWC 2011, is trying do be different enough to be worth mentioning in the press (it worked for them here), as the form factor borrows heavily from what you’ve [...]

Original article: NEC LifeTouch Note: netbook or Android tablet?

There aren’t too many convertible netbook tablets on the market today (see the list of netvertibles here) and any new product is welcome to increase the options consumers have. The Swift i-Touch by DTK is what you would call a typical netbook tablet, with a 10 inch screen (no idea if it’s HD ready) and an Atom N450 CPU, helped by 1GB RAM (why not 2 GB is beyond my understanding), a 320 GB hard drive. Add to that a 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, optional 3G and you have a clear picture of what’s going on with the Swift i-Touch.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned here once or twice the Gigabyte T1000 netvertible series, consisting of T1000P and T1000X models, both with similar configurations. Now that the dust has settled on the announcement news it’s time to get to the real moment consumers are waiting: availability of the Gigabyte T1000P, which just now surfaced on Amazon.com for a pretty steep 699$ price. It’s in preorder with availability starting July 1st. This puts it 200 bucks north of the ASUS EEE PC T101MT, the most important convertible tablet that has surfaced this year (see the current best netvertible list here). But price [...]

Original article: Gigabyte T1000P netvertible shows up for preorder for 699$

UPDATE: It’s really shipping and the stock is running low already. It seems that finally the long awaited ASUS EEE PC T101MT convertible netbook tablet is here. I’ve just seen it on Amazon for 498.5$ (specs are scarce and no picture is provided so it might not be yet in stock), which is a very competitive price compared to Lenovo S10-3t. If you want to read more about it you can do it here on our first review with a faulty sample or the second review here with the final product. Alternatively, if you are not still decided between the [...]

Original article: ASUS EEE PC T101MT shows up for sale

Finally a product we haven’t talked about yet: the Viliv S7 convertible tablet. It’s not in the same league as the Asus EEE PC T101MT and Lenovo S10-3t, mainly because it features a smaller 7 inch screen with the same number of pixels (1024 x 600) as the two mentioned before. Hardware specs are somehow at the same level of performance because of the Intel Atom CPU. If portability is what you seek, then you can’t get something better and cheaper than the 799 grams Viliv S7 that offers up to 9.5 hours of typical battery life and 7 hours [...]

Original article: Viliv S7 mini convertible tablet: 799 grams of pure joy

Finding a computer for your kids can be a difficult task. If you think of a convertible tablet PC things are even more difficult, but there are products like the Rilakkuma SX specially targeted at your kids. The only problem is that you might want to book a flight to Japan to get one and prepare around 1000$ cash for it. It sounds much (actually it is) but if your kid’s happiness is what you’re seeking you can’t go wrong with the Rilakkuma SX convertible touch tablet.
A loft of you guys have asked me about the Lenovo S10-3t and the Asus EEE PC T101MT convertible tablet PCs with netbook hardware inside. Those are the best choices right now as the Lenovo already sells the S10-3t while the ASUS has begun shipping the EEE PC T101MT (reviewed by me here) so availability is expected in days to weeks time. In this post I’ll try and put head to head the two convertible tablet PCs and try and make a short comparison review that might help you decide which one of those two ‘marvels’ is right for you.
Remember my first hands on preview of the ASUS T101MT convertible netbook tablet? ASUS sure does as they were not pleased with my findings so they’ve send me another sample, this one being just like the one that you’ll be able to buy from stores in a few weeks. I won’t make a new review, or hands on video, but I’ll highlight the differences from the product I’ve handled a few weeks ago and this final version. The big question you all have in your minds is whether the screen is good.
Gigabyte seems to be really into the convertible tablet race as they’ve displayed the T1000p netbook tablet at CeBIT and the first hands on had hit the web, of course. From initial impressions it seems we have a real deal here: chiclet keyboard (the best Gigabyte has put on a portable so far), nice resistive multitouch screen with good response, solid construction and a big 6 cell battery (56 Wh) which should be good for 7-8 hours of use. Also the interface on top of Windows 7 Starter seems a little more snappy than the one on the Asus T101MT.
