Panasonic ToughBook C1 Convertible Tablet PC preview and hands on

With tradition in building rugged PCs (they claim to make them since 1993), Panasonic introduces the newest member of the ToughBook family, the Panasonic ToughBook C1 Convertible Tablet PC. And it isn't just the newest ToughBook, it is also named the world's lightest 12.1-inch convertible tablet PC.The new C1 Convertible Tablet PC from Panasonic seams to address especially to medical field, but not only. When projected it, Panasonic considered the case in which you have to carry your tablet...

DigitalRise X9 netbook tablet preview

For me the best way to make a touch tablet is to take netbook hardware, strip the keyboard off and that's it: you got a fully fledged computer running a modern OS on a device that should cost a dime, just like a netbook does. Unfortunately things are not quite going like this, as current netbook tablets don't sell for 300-400$, but for prices way out of the 'normal' league: 700-800 $ or even more. That's the case too with the DigitalRise X9 netbook tablet, a classic Atom powered device, with ...

iiView Vpad: slow and expensive slate tablet

Everyone can make a tablet these days, no doubt about it. The recipe is simple: take a netbook, attach a touch layer to the screen, that's also attached to the main body and there you have it. It seems simple, but the end result is not always what users expect: a seamless experience, mainly because of two reasons, the lack of proper software and slow hardware. That's the case with the latest addition to slate type tablets Pack: iiView Vpad.iiView Vpad is nothing more than a netbook tablet ru...

Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field could eat other tablets

Panasonic is one tough laptop manufacturer. I'm saying that because of their Toughbook rugged computer lineup, which today received another member, the Toughbook H1 Field tablet, a device that can resist a six foot drop and can handle any outdoor environments, being special built for this task. From internal hardware standpoint we have netbook guts for Toughbook H1 Field but a little more powerful thanks to a higher clocked Atom CPU and a SSD disk drive. Not only Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field ...

Netbook Navigator Nav 9 – flexible but expensive

I love when small companies challenge the big players, just like Netbook Navigator did with its Nav 9 slate type tablet which houses a small netbook inside an already known form factor. What I don't like is when they put price tags way higher than the competition. Unfortunately this is what Netbook Navigator did with Nav 9, which sells for 799$ to 1399$ with all upgrades in place. There are over 25 possible combination but the asking price is way too much, even if you get the illusion you'll ...

Lenovo X201T already for sale in Australia

It seems that almost everything that leaks on Internet is true, at least as far as it goes for last week Lenovo's roadmap leak for 2010 which revealed plans for an X200 Tablet successor called X201T. It seems that things are moving even faster than predicted as Lenovo X201T convertible tablet already showed up on an Australian website, so now we finally have some specs to temper with.So let's see that the Lenovo X201T has to offer for us: 12.1 inch multitouch enabled LED backlit screen, a Co...

Fujitsu Lifebook T900: another powerful convertible tablet

I'm glad to see that Fujitsu's laptop division is not dead, as they just announced the Lifebook T900 convertible tablet. Unfortunately this is the best example of why tablet PCs didn't had a chance a few years ago: it's huge, heavy and expensive. It's also powerful, especially considering the 13.3 inch footprint, but the 1.5 inch thickness and 4.78 lbs weight might get me off buying it, if the 1889$ starting price didn't do that in the first place. If you can get past those problems you'll ge...

DigitalRise X9 tablet with Atom and Windows

It's pretty odd to launch a touch tablet now, just a few days after CES has ended and tablets got their 15 minutes of fame but DigitalRise (known for its iPhone clones) did it and it's not that crappy as it seems, packing an Atom CPU with all the connectivity features like 3G (WCDMA-SCDMA, CDMA200 variant), WiFi and GPS into a slate type body. The screen is a 10.2 inch multi touch display (1024 x 600 pixels) but we don't know yet if it's a capacitive or resistive display. But we know about th...
