Articles about convertible tablet

A convertible tablet is what you call a laptop with a rotating 180 degrees screen. A convertible tablet (or simply called “tablet PC”) can be used as a regular tablet or like a laptop. Convertible tablets need a strong screen hinge to allow for multiple rotations without breaking. Currently convertible tablets are surpassed in appeal only by slate tablets, but they are far better when it comes to working with them, offering no limits when it comes to computing power.

Intel Keeley Lake: the future of convertible tablet PCs looks slim

IT shows are like car shows: you see a lot of prototypes that probably are not going to make it to market, but that's OK, since you get a glimpse at what manufacturers are planning for the months/years to come and can submit your feedback to them. One of the interesting tablet PC prototypes of Computex 2011 is Intel's Keeley Lake concept, a 'classic' convertible tablet with one major distinction: MacBook Air like thinness.Well, it's not quite as thin as the Air, but it's a lot thinner than m...

HP EliteBook 2760p convertible tablet shows up

Even if people think of slates when they hear the term tablet companies like HP are the pioneers behind the original tablet PC concept and don't want to give up the convertible tablet form factor, especially since business users are still more attracted to them than slates. The latest convertible model from HP is the Elitebook 2760p featuring the latest generation Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs, full voltage version, which is amazing considering the 12.1 inch form factor that makes cooling a full power...

Convertible tablet vs slate tablet

With the emergence of the iPad, tablet computers are making a comeback. Tablets are touch-screen appliances that rely on a stylus or your finger to navigate. There are two types of computer tablets: the slated tablet and the convertible tablet, also known as netvertible (see our post on best netvertibles). As to which one is better, it really depends on your specific needs. The convertible tablet has an external hardware keyboard and looks more like a laptop than the slated tablet. The keyboa...

ASUS T101MT will get a dual core Atom CPU soon

Remember the ASUS T101MT netvertible from last year? I've tested it here and here and found it one of the best convertible netbooks at that date, despite its early touchscreen accuracy of the pre-production sample I've received. It's still unmatched as price and features are concerned, but the single core 1.66 GHz Atom N450 CPU is starting to feel really antiquated (not that Atoms are modern anyway). That's why ASUS decided it's time for an upgrade of its T101MT small 10 inch convertible tablet ...

Gigabyte T1125N review: a desktop replacement convertible tablet

I'm sure you haven't heard of  Gigabyte Booktop T1125N (even if we've covered a rumor a while ago), as I've just found a review about this 11.6 inch convertible tablet that's already shipping in US and Europe. It's like if Gigabyte has made everything possible to launch their tablet PC in secrecy. After reading the review I must admit I don't understand Gigabyte's position, as the Booktop T1125N is a very capable tablet PC which can be used as a desktop replacement without having to deal with p...

Lenovo X220t tablet: under 4 pounds and 16 hours battery life

One of my favorite convertible tablet PCs of last year is the award winning Lenovo X201t, a very tough tablet with lots of features, industrial design and powerful specs. Now Lenovo has presented the X220t, the new model that makes the switch to a 16:9 screen aspect and 12.5 inch diagonal screen. I know, I know, tablet PCs are not cool anymore, but this one is: it's under 4 lbs weight and manages to last up to 16 hours when paired with a slice type battery that attaches to the bottom of the Leno...

10 inch Fujitsu T580 convertible lands in US

There are quite a few old manufacturers out there that are still faithful to their old tablet PC design, and Fujitsu is one of them. Their latest achievement is the T580 convertible, a 10.1 inch tablet with the same rotating screen we are used to from the first tablets. What sets this tablet apart is the 10 inch form factor and the fact performance is supplied by powerful Intel Core i3 and i5 low voltage CPUs.And given the performance of the Fujitsu T580 is quite remarkable that pricing does...

More convertible tablets from ASUS, Acer, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba in 2011

Have you ever stopped to think about why Intel is so present in our everyday gadgets than AMD? Is it the fact that they make faster processors than the competition? No, it's not that, it's the money they have, that allows them to push their products to consumers via ad campaigns like the one they're preparing for the next gen Oak Trail Atom CPUs, which will debut in Q1 2011. And they're doing it right, by sponsoring vendors like ASUS, Acer, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba to advertise products powered...

Apple has a patent for a convertible tablet mechanism. It’s not the usual suspect

Apple is always late when it comes to adoption of new technologies, unless they invent them. Not even today Apple products offer USB 3.0, Blu Ray, Wireless Display, or other top notch technologies that are becoming standard on competitor's devices. Take for example the tablets, which Steve Jobs said a few weeks ago when Apple launched the new MacBook Air, that making the user lift its hands in the air to touch the screen of a laptop is madness, and it's not the way to do it.Apparently Apple ...

Gigabyte T1005 convertible netbook to bring hardware upgrade, including USB 3.0

If you ask me one of the best convertible netbooks around is the ASUS T101MT, which we've reviewed here as a worldwide premiere. While there are quite a few other interesting devices, like the Gigabyte T1000P, those netvertibles are sometimes too expensive or are too late on market or simply there are not available, so people can't get them even if they wanted to. The same goes for the aforementioned Gigabyte T1000P and T1000X netbook tablets, which are the second generation of Gigabyte netverti...
