Just about when I thought I was done with the CES 2012 coverage I’ve found an interesting hybrid concept from Toshiba, called Portege M930, a ‘normal’ laptop with a central screen hinge that’s used to adjust the screen 360 degrees from notebook mode to slate tablet operating mode. We all know what educational computers are: PCs specially designed for the learning sector or for under developer countries. We’ve covered a little bit the subject here and at CES 2012 there were some new models launched by CTL and Lenovo, a newly interested manufacturer in this segment. One of the most popular articles here on AllTouchTablet is the review of the ASUS EEE PC T101MT convertible netbook, dating back to 2010. Gigabyte may not have been a player in the slate tablet arena (where it offers the S1080 Atom powered tablet), but they’ve tried hard with their line of convertible tablets (also called netvertibles). The successor to the T1125N is called Gigabyte T1132N, and this uses the second generation Intel Core CPUs, also from the low voltage category, just like the MacBook Air. But similarities end here, with the Gigabyte T1132N being heavier and thicker than the Apple laptop: 1,76 kg and 40 mm. After the Transfomer 2 teaser from yesterday ASUS released more info about the second generation transformer tablet when Jonney Shih, company’s chairman, shocased the actual prototype at AsiaD and revealed its name: Transformer Prime. The official launch event is scheduled for November 9th. As we’ve guessed yesterday, the 10 inch convertible tablet borrows the design from the recent Zenbook line of ASUS ultrabooks with a silver aluminium finish. Toughbook is Panasonic’s well known brand for rugged laptops and convertible tablets. Their latest model is Toughbook C1, a product that received a powerful upgrade in specs, that now include the Intel Sandy Bridge platform.
