A convertible tablet is what you call a laptop with a rotating 180 degrees screen. A convertible tablet (or simply called “tablet PC”) can be used as a regular tablet or like a laptop. Convertible tablets need a strong screen hinge to allow for multiple rotations without breaking. Currently convertible tablets are surpassed in appeal only by slate tablets, but they are far better when it comes to working with them, offering no limits when it comes to computing power.
Just about when I thought I was done with the CES 2012 coverage I've found an interesting hybrid concept from Toshiba, called Portege M930, a 'normal' laptop with a central screen hinge that's used to adjust the screen 360 degrees from notebook mode to slate tablet operating mode. The new hinge design is the most important thing in this story, as it's attached to the middle back of the screen and allows the display to be adjusted from horizontal mode, laying flat over the keyboard to a notebo...
We all know what educational computers are: PCs specially designed for the learning sector or for under developer countries. We've covered a little bit the subject here and at CES 2012 there were some new models launched by CTL and Lenovo, a newly interested manufacturer in this segment.CTL had two 2go Classmate PC models, the convertible tablet NL3 and the more 'classic' laptop design E12. Both are rugged computers meant to withstand some punishment from the kids that'll use them. Power com...
One of the most popular articles here on AllTouchTablet is the review of the ASUS EEE PC T101MT convertible netbook, dating back to 2010. The netvertible concept was derived from the need to marry a lightweight form factor with an affordable price.I can't say it was a success, as the offer was always limited and products lacked appeal due to poor performance, but now that ultrabooks are poised to replace netbooks I understand why Asus will be offering a convertible ultrabook in 2012, powere...
We have plenty of slate tablets these days, but as you can see from our favourite netvertible list there are not too many convertible tablet PCs out there to satisfy the taste of those that want productivity and touch in the same package, or don't want one like the Lenovo X220T that costs an arm and a leg.If you're in this category then you might want to take a look at the Gigabyte T1006, an update to last year's T1005 and a completely different product from this week's Gigabyte T1132N. ...
Gigabyte may not have been a player in the slate tablet arena (where it offers the S1080 Atom powered tablet), but they've tried hard with their line of convertible tablets (also called netvertibles). The successor to the T1125N is called Gigabyte T1132N, and this uses the second generation Intel Core CPUs, also from the low voltage category, just like the MacBook Air.But similarities end here, with the Gigabyte T1132N being heavier and thicker than the Apple laptop: 1,76 kg and 40 mm. The...
One of the tablets I'm eager to see on market is the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer 2, confirmed to be called TF2o1 Transformer Prime and also teased to all of us a few days about by Jonney Shih, company's chairman. As of a few hours ago on Internet surfaced a few pictures with close up views of the EEE Pad Transformer Prime that reveal what I've already intuited from the first official teaser: a LED flash for the back camera and a very slim design that matches visually the Zenbook series of ult...
After the Transfomer 2 teaser from yesterday ASUS released more info about the second generation transformer tablet when Jonney Shih, company's chairman, shocased the actual prototype at AsiaD and revealed its name: Transformer Prime. The official launch event is scheduled for November 9th.As we've guessed yesterday, the 10 inch convertible tablet borrows the design from the recent Zenbook line of ASUS ultrabooks with a silver aluminium finish. The 8.3 mm slim body of the tablet (minus the d...
After many rumors about the upcoming EEE Pad Transformer 2 tablet, ASUS finally released a teaser with their next generation Transformer. I have to remind you the original EEE Pad Transformer is one of the most successful Android tablets on 2011, especially due to the [easyazon-link asin="B004U78J1G"]$399 starting price[/easyazon-link] tag and the possibility to [easyazon-link asin="B004U78628"]purchase a docking keyboard[/easyazon-link] with a second battery that extends autonomy to over 16 ho...
We're usually talking here at AllTouchTablet about slate tablets, but we had quite a few posts about convertible tablets, real powerhouses for work in environments that require the presence of a touchscreen. Dell Latitude XT3 was one such product that was announced back in February, but didn't make it to market up until now. That moment is getting closer and closer, as the official Latitude XT3 tablet product page just surfaced on Dell's website. There isn't a lot of new info we haven't hea...
Toughbook is Panasonic's well known brand for rugged laptops and convertible tablets. Their latest model is Toughbook C1, a product that received a powerful upgrade in specs, that now include the Intel Sandy Bridge platform. Panasonic says about ToughBook C1 it's the world's lightest 12.1 inch convertible tablet PC, starting at 3,28 lbs with one battery and going up to 3,73 lbs if you add a second power unit which increases battery life to 12 hours combined. It's hard to be light, rugged and ...
