It’s not the first time we talk about Chrome OS (see more articles), Google’s ultra light weight mobile operating system, but for the past couple of months we’ve neglected it completely, as it was obvious the company is not looking to make a Chrome OS tablet available anytime soon, thus keeping Android for smartphones and tablets while Chrome OS is reserved for netbooks and probably laptops later on. Now I’m baffled again by the a video I’ve came upon at TabletBite.com showing what it looks like a preview of Chrome OS virtual keyboard and browser for tablets. Shocker, right? We’ve talked a bit here at AllTouchTablet about Google’s plans for operating systems including Android for tablets and smartphones and Chrome OS for laptops and netbooks. Apparently Google is also targeting tablets with its web apps based OS, as CNET revealed by conducting a code investigation of the latest OS build. According to them, lots of elements point towards a touch optimized UI that will work especially on tablets. I guess you all follow the news from time to time scanning for Google related bits of info. Today it’s time to take Chrome OS seriously, as the Google VP of product management spoke at Computex, telling the press that this Chrome browser based OS will launch officially sometime in autumn this year. Interestingly enough Google didn’t comment on products availability, but I bet they’re planning something with their partners. iPad is a success, everybody knows that, now that the 1 million mark of sold units was surpassed in less than 30 days. Google has an eye on the tablet market for some time, but it didn’t made any serious move till now, when we know they’re developing an iPad killer together with Verizon Wireless. We don’t know yet who’s building the hardware, but I bet it’s HTC, as they’ve already collaborated nicely for the Nexus One smartphone and is not out of the question for HTC to start developing a slim tablet for Google. iPad is essentially a grown up iPod that uses the same light OS of the iPhone.
